ASSET OPERATIONS

A solar plant loses money quietly. A string fails and output drops by a fraction of a percent. Soiling accumulates and the loss looks like weather. An inverter derates in high temperature and nobody notices until the monthly invoice arrives.

None of this appears without monitoring designed to find it. Our operations service exists to detect deviation early, correct it quickly, and report what happened in terms an owner and a lender can act on.

The organisation that built the plant remains responsible for how it performs.

Performance Monitoring

Continuous monitoring against the design yield model, not against last month's output.

Every plant we operate has an expected production figure for every hour, derived from the same model used at feasibility stage and corrected for measured irradiation and temperature. Actual output is compared against that figure. Where the two diverge beyond tolerance, the system flags it and an engineer investigates.

This is the difference between knowing that production fell and knowing why.

Preventive Maintenance

Scheduled inspection and servicing on a defined annual programme: module cleaning against measured soiling loss, thermographic inspection of modules, connections and switchgear, inverter servicing, transformer testing, protection relay verification, earthing measurement and structural inspection.

Vegetation management, drainage and access road maintenance are included, because a plant that cannot be reached in winter cannot be repaired in winter.

Battery operation requires active management that solar does not.

State of charge strategy, cycle scheduling, depth of discharge control, thermal management and degradation tracking all affect both revenue and asset life simultaneously.

Operating aggressively against a wide price spread earns more today and shortens the warranty life. We manage that trade-off explicitly and report it, rather than optimising for one quarter's revenue.

Storage System Management

Corrective Maintenance

Fault response under defined timeframes, with spare parts held against the critical components — inverters, protection devices and communication equipment.

Response and resolution obligations are set out in the operations agreement, and performance against them is reported.

Commercial and Market Operations

Licence obligations, reporting to the system operator, metering compliance, insurance renewals, permit conditions and statutory inspections.

Across the region, the operational obligations attached to a production licence have expanded — real-time data transmission, dispatch response within defined intervals, and minimum communication availability across each calendar month. Non-compliance can result in disconnection. We manage these obligations as a standing item, not as an annual exercise.

Regulatory & Compliance Management

Where the asset sells into the day-ahead market: production forecasting, bid submission, imbalance management and settlement reconciliation.

Forecast accuracy has a direct financial consequence. Imbalance penalties are levied against the difference between what a plant declares and what it delivers, and poor forecasting can consume a meaningful share of a plant's margin.

Performance Reporting

Monthly operational reporting covering production against model, availability, performance ratio, incidents and corrective actions. For financed assets, reporting is prepared in the format the lender requires, on the covenant schedule, with the underlying data available for verification.

Asset Optimisation

Over a thirty-year operating life, the configuration that was optimal at commissioning will not remain so. We assess repowering opportunities, storage retrofit where the price curve justifies it, connection capacity revision, offtake restructuring at contract expiry, and equipment replacement timing against warranty and degradation curves. An operating asset is a position to be managed, not a machine to be left running.
